How green is material girl Madonna?

Madonna's green cred has been put through the ringer of late. Her charitable foundation – The Ray of Light Foundation - has invested heavily in the corporate world including in numerous large companies that log forests, mine for metals and drill for oil. All things that are rather harmful to the planet, dear reader. But since her involvement with the recent Live Earth event the Hung Up star is re-evaluating her stance on mother-earth's problems. Her spokesperson revealed, "Madonna’s agreement to sing at the Live Earth event is merely one of the first steps in her commitment to being environmentally responsible. She is educating herself and her family and has begun to make changes around her that reflect her awareness and concern for the future of the planet." Well that's fabby do then isn't it?!

I met Madonna in 1990 for the Don't Bungle The Jungle benefit at the restaurant Indochine in downtown Manhattan... It may have been the first time she was introduced to issues of planetary importance... the event was co-hosted by Christie Brinkley who shortly after, went on to more or less single-handedly keep the Shoreham nuclear power plant from opening on Long Island... Knowing they had lost the battle, the nuclear industry turned on the reactor for a test anyway, just to leave a radioactive mess behind, shows you how evil these people are... We really wish Christie would resharpen her blade, and join us to shut down the Indian Point nuclear power plant on the Hudson river... no rest for the wicked... as for Madonna... she must know that as above, so below... as all shaman know... she cannot aspire to the wholeness the kabalah promises, without greening the entire planet around her... shirley mclaine figured this out a long time ago... we're on earth for a reason, that's not just to contemplate our navel in pensive poses... yoga and global activism go together... this is what all great spiritual masters, from gandhi to sri aurobindo to gurdjieff all said in unison... listen to donovan and david lynch... it's a planetary transformation, the whole of humanity has to rise above the muck... before any of us can aspire to touch the sky and not fall back.
